Goal achieved
Friendship and trust are created by making space for connection.
The brief was to use responsive, research-led design to reimagine three small pre-prep hub classrooms, with a strong focus on colour as a driver of engagement and learning. Drawing on neuroscience and biophilic design principles, a rainbow theme was introduced to create environments that are stimulating, reassuring and developmentally appropriate.
The objective was to apply seven key design factors known to influence learning outcomes, grounded in the understanding that the classrooms children inhabit can either support or limit effective performance and educational outcomes. Research in neuroscience demonstrates that colour, light and spatial legibility play a direct role in emotional regulation, attention and memory formation.

Biophilic design further enhances these effects by reinforcing a sense of safety, connection and wellbeing, which is essential for young learners.

Through this approach, the classrooms were designed to stimulate positive emotion, support cognitive function and creativity and encourage collaborative learning. Clear zoning, consistent visual cues and a cohesive colour language establish a sense of belonging and security, allowing students to feel confident and supported within their environment.

The broader educational aim is to nurture globally minded young learners by creating spaces that empower them to think critically, adapt confidently and engage with future challenges. By aligning design with how children learn and develop, these classrooms actively support both academic performance and emotional wellbeing.
