Goal achieved
Power of open trusses and light in small spaces
This project demonstrates the power of considered design to completely redefine how a space is experienced and lived in. What were once two small, constrained attic apartments have been transformed into a generous, light-filled home that prioritises comfort, clarity and wellbeing.
By merging the two units, the apartment now benefits from enhanced volume, natural light and uninterrupted views across the surrounding gardens and downs. These outlooks introduce a strong sense of calm and connection to nature, shaping an environment that feels open, restorative and balanced.

The design approach combined contemporary fixtures and finishes with respect for the character of the original English country house. Traditional elements are reinterpreted through a modern lens, such as the oversized Designers Guild rose motif on the sofas, which brings a sense of familiarity while feeling fresh and current. Carefully detailed carpentry and mirrored cupboard doors were integrated to maximise storage and light, demonstrating how intelligent design can transform the functionality of compact spaces.

The reconfigured apartment is now a spacious two-bedroom home. A modern, open-plan kitchen flows naturally into the living and dining areas, extending outward onto a decked balcony that enhances the indoor-outdoor relationship. Throughout the project, meticulous attention to detail has ensured the apartment feels cohesive and intuitive, creating a harmonious home that supports both everyday living and long-term wellbeing.
