Basic structure, proportion and flow are fundamental
The complete renovation of this elegant family home, set within a national heritage site near Sintra, brought together interior architecture and design to deliver a fully resolved turnkey project. Designed to support an international relocation, the house was carefully prepared to allow the family to arrive to a home that was immediately functional, comfortable and deeply connected to its setting.
The brief centred on creating a practical, welcoming family home with the flexibility to host extended family and friends. Existing furniture was retained where possible, complemented by bespoke pieces where needed and thoughtfully layered with the family’s established art collection. This approach ensured continuity and familiarity while elevating the home for its new context.

Spatial planning focused on improving flow and usability without sacrificing privacy. Living areas were opened up to encourage connection and ease when entertaining, while quieter zones were preserved to allow retreat and downtime. The result is a home that adapts effortlessly between everyday family life and larger social gatherings.
Architectural interventions included levelling ceilings, removing columns and lifting sections of the roof to increase volume and light. These changes allowed for the creation of two additional bedrooms for the boys, enhancing both functionality and long-term adaptability.

Nestled within this beautiful golf estate, the home enjoys a rare balance of openness and seclusion. Framed views, natural light and a strong indoor-outdoor relationship reinforce a sense of calm and continuity with the surrounding landscape. The finished home feels serene and grounded, offering privacy, connection to nature and a highly functional environment tailored to family living.
